Clinic Service-Learning

Clinic Service-Learning

1.6 million people in Georgia lack insurance coverage and access to preventive and life-saving care.  We all benefit from a health system that prioritizes access to affordable care.  At HealthSTAT we encourage our members to explore innovative, interdisciplinary solutions to solving this problem.

Several years ago, students at Mercer University’s Southern School of Pharmacy began with a simple idea to determine the prescription needs of the indigent population in Georgia.  It soon grew into a large initiative that now encompasses clinics and students across disciplines, with a goal of increasing access to care and medications for those most in need.  The first phase of this project was completed with the creation of HealthSTAT’s Clinic Database, which lists free and discounted clinics across all 159 Georgia counties.

Currently, we are working with clinics within our database, providing volunteers to assist with community outreach and enrollment assistance.  Rarely do these clinics have enough staff support to help with this vital role; therefore, we link students with clinics in their communities, giving you a chance to work in the field and experience varying sides of the healthcare system.
